She is a senior project planner for one of the largest luxury fashion retailers in the world, married to a professional hockey player, and just celebrated her first Mother's Day with her precious five month old baby Archer… all at the age of twenty seven. Yes, you read that right, and here’s the BEST part… she’s just as pretty on the inside as she is out! #goals
This month we met up with Riley Kim, also known as @smileyrileyd in the fashion world. Riley is a senior project planner for Bloomingdale’s and moonlights as a fashion influencer. Most popularly known for her amazing wardrobe, she provides her followers with stylish outfits head to toe for any occasion. Her fun, fashionable, city chic style is insanely adorable and we loved how she styled our pieces with some of her favorite accessories.
“My journey into the fashion world began with an internship at WhoWhatWear, providing a firsthand experience of the industry's dynamics. Post-graduation, I had a clear ambition to pursue fashion which led me to New York City. Learning about Bloomingdale’s buying program through my university opened the doors to a career path that felt serendipitous, given my personal history of shopping at Bloomingdale’s. To me, fashion isn't just about trends; it's a canvas for self-expression and creativity, a quiet yet powerful means to convey personality.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I sought solace and creativity through social media, launching an Instagram account “SmileyRileyd” to explore my passion for fashion and find joy amid challenging times. I’m an oxymoron in the sense that I’m a homebody who loves to travel. My husband’s career has brought us to many different places, but Charleston has been my favorite by far. Balancing time between New York and Charleston during fertility treatments, I found solace and gratitude in the latter, especially appreciating the vibrant community of female-founded companies that foster support rather than competition. Charleston is quickly becoming a mecca for fashion and the pulse is strong and unifying. I discovered Elizabeth James on instagram and quickly came to love their collections, and to watch their success and growth just over the past year has been amazing!.”
Accomplishing so much at such a young age while being a working mother shows her tenacity with an impressive resume to boot! We admire her moxy, style, and work ethic, balancing mom duties on top of her demanding fashion career. Riley embodies the career woman mentality of having it all and looking good while doing it, which is why she is one of our “Women Who Win”
