This month, we caught up with Helen Leland, the brains and beauty behind The Bomb Co where she shared all about how she turned her kitchen startup into a Multi-Million Dollar Health empire, starting with just $300. From jotting down orders by hand and schlepping them to the post office, to now running a fulfillment and distribution center for The Bomb Co. to big shots like Walmart and Whole Foods. Helen's journey as a #bossbabe entrepreneur is a rollercoaster of tales and hard-earned wisdom. And guess what? She's not shy about dishing out the secrets to growing her brand and stepping into success.
“I got the idea in 2017 when I saw my personal training clients struggle with nutrition. So, I started testing the recipe that same day, and Blender Bombs were born in my kitchen. It took me about a week to finalize the recipe. Then, I went to Costco, bought the ingredients in bulk, and began making them in my kitchen. I gave them to my clients as gifts for the first few months before it became a business.
The power of influencers cannot be overstated. There were three influencers who had a significant impact on our business. When they posted about Blender Bombs, our sales would increase sixfold on those days. That’s when I realized that the most cost-effective way for me to scale Blender Bombs would be to establish myself as an influencer. This way, I could reach more people without having to pay other influencers to post. Through this journey, I learned that you can have an impact on people you’ve never met face-to-face. The power of social media is incredible. I also discovered my love for travel. At the end of the day, what matters most are the relationships and social connections you make, as they have the greatest impact on people."
"Our success was largely due to the Charleston community. We grew very quickly in Charleston and the South Carolina, Georgia, and North Carolina area in general. This local support provided us with enough stability to expand outside of the Southeast. We would be nothing without Charleston’s support.
I've been taken advantage of by many people along the way ( you know who you are) and I learned that I always need to manage the profit and loss statements and know how to read, manage, and catch mistakes on them myself until it becomes second nature. No one else will care about your business as much as you do.
Owning my time and having more time with Lane and Alan is a priority for me. The only way I manage to do it all is by outsourcing as much as I possibly can within my means.”
